NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark on steel bracelet

The World After Dark

NOMOS Glashütte’s Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer earned near-universal affection when it appeared: a genuine travel complication, built in-house, at a price the grand maisons could not touch. Now it has acquired an evening wardrobe. The Worldtimer Dark trades the original’s daylight cheer for a glossy black dial with the depth of enamel, its numerals and hands rendered in off-white Super-LumiNova that turns the whole display luminous when the cabin lights go down.

The Worldtimer Dark: glossy black, off-white Super-LumiNova, and a city ring always on duty.

The mechanics remain the cleverest in the price class. A pusher at 2 o’clock advances the city disc one station at a time; local time follows automatically from the central hands, while a 24-hour register at 3 o’clock keeps home time with a day-night indicator — the difference between calling Hamburg at a civilised hour and waking the household. Calibre DUW 3202 does the work: automatic, 37 jewels, adjusted in six positions, with a 42-hour reserve, all visible through the sapphire back.

Front and back: the city disc on one side, DUW 3202 on the other.

At 40mm across and under 10mm tall, on a steel bracelet with a screw-down crown and 100 metres of water resistance, this is the rare worldtimer that genuinely does not care whether the journey ends in a boardroom or off a boat. For a city whose residents keep perpetual count of the hours in London, Mumbai and Singapore, the appeal writes itself — this is a watch built for exactly the life Dubai leads.

The Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer family; the Dark is the newest recruit.

A permanent addition to the collection rather than a limited run, the Dark is priced at EUR 4,400 on the bracelet with sapphire back. Among serious travel watches, that remains less an asking price than an argument — and in black, the argument has acquired a dinner jacket.
