According to a new report by the World Economic Forum, produced in collaboration with Kearney and the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom is emerging as a key driver of global tourism transformation. Titled Travel and Tourism at a Turning Point: Principles for Transformative Growth, the report highlights Saudi Arabia’s strategic investments in regenerative destinations, future-ready infrastructure and talent development as part of its ambitious goal to welcome 150 million visitors by 2030. Speaking about the report, His Excellency Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Minister of Tourism for Saudi Arabia, emphasised the sector’s growing role in driving economic growth, cultural understanding and global cooperation. He noted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building a sustainable, inclusive and resilient tourism industry that not only supports national development but also helps shape the future of tourism worldwide. Saudi Arabia is identified in the report as one of several high potential destinations — alongside Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia — experiencing rapid growth due to strategic tourism investment. This momentum is positioning the Kingdom as a leading player in a sector projected to contribute US$16 trillion to global GDP by 2034. And from Tag Heuer’s Saudi-specific editions to local favourite Charmaleena’s bracelets inspired by the Kingdom’s flag, watch and jewellery makers also seem to be looking to our region for inspiration. Here’s GMT GCC’s digest of the verdant timepieces and jewels that pay tribute to a destination on the rise.
